February 2010 meeting

February 25th, 2010

The meeting this month was held in a new location. It was at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University building. This was a “trial run” for the group as we are considering moving locations. The church has been wonderful about letting us use the space, but it has some definite drawbacks as a meeting place for us.

The ERAU building has no stairs, is a better conditioned space (i.e., heated), has more comfortable chairs and we don’t have to put away tables and chairs at the end of the meeting. There was a tentative vote taken and everyone present liked this facility better than the church. We will vote again next month for real and make a determination then.

This month, we swapped out red strips and they were all different and very pretty. Margaret brought muffins, creme horns and fresh fruit for snacks.

Darlene brought Joan’s quilt back beautifully quilted. I hope the quilting shows up in these photos.

Joan demonstrated a Fireworks Pinwheel block. She chose that one because it uses 2½” strips and can be used by those of us participating in the strip swap.

January 2010 Meeting

January 29th, 2010

We are starting two new programs this year beginning with January’s meeting. The first is a mini jelly roll swap. Each month, those who want to participate will bring in 15 strips in that month’s color theme. They are all 2 1/2″ wide. Like a cookie swap, the strips are laid out and everyone takes one strip from each other participant. We started out with white/cream strips.

The second new program is the block of the month instructions. Each month, a different member will choose a block and demonstrate or provide instructions on how to make it to the group. That way, we will get varying levels of skill from the beginners to the experts among us and we will all, hopefully, add some new skills to our repertoire.

December Meeting

December 13th, 2009

Description: This month is our Christmas Party. Bring a covered dish and 3 FQs in a paper sack. Remember, there aren’t that many of us so don’t bring a ton of food.

November Meeting

November 24th, 2009

The meeting went well. Melinda showed everyone who was interested how to crochet a “weather worm” to give as a cute gift. It’s a very simple project and was accomplished even by those new to crochet.

Joan demonstrated how to make quilted coasters as a quick gift. A slight change in the size and it could be a quilted trivet or placemat. Easy and quick – just what’s needed this time of year.
